Round 10 of the FIA World Rally Championship takes DMACK Tyres to yet another continent as the WRC regulars arrive in New South Wales for what proves to be an exciting Rally Australia.

The event marks the country’s return to the world series after a break in 2010 but the revised event, which is based in the Coffs Coast region, will certainly prove another stern test for both tyres and crews.

Rally Australia was traditionally based in Perth, Western Australia, and was renowned for its ultra-slippery, ball-bearing type gravel that challenged tyres and cars to find grip.

The new event now runs over slightly more traditional gravel and forest tracks but is sure to pose a tough test for crews and see top drivers battle to make the most of road position to ensure they aren’t faced with sweeping the dirty stages.

DMACK will supply competitors with its DMG2 gravel tyre and has nominated the G4 medium compound for Rally Australia. The DMG2 has been well-proven with solid results in Portugal, Argentina and Finland already this year. DMACK will also offer the softer G6 compound for non-priority competitors.

It believes the DMG2’s grip and stability on the hard, high-speed roads will deliver a confident mix of traction and grip to competitors.

Rally action in Australia is not totally unknown to DMACK – in July the tyre manufacturer took its first rally win in the Southern Hemisphere with overall victory on the Robertstown Rally. Round two of the South Australia Rally Championship saw five DMACK cars contest the event with all five finishing in the top seven.

Event Details

The new-look event is located over 500 km north of Sydney at Coffs Harbour. The Service Park is based at the local airport while spectators will get up close and personal with the rally action at the all-asphalt Coffs Super Special stage which kicks the event off on Thursday night.

Friday’s action sees crews tackle two loops of three stages to the west of rally HQ while Saturday takes them further to the south for eight main stages before two more attempts at the Coffs test.

Sunday’s action is still a challenge with two runs through the longest test of the event – the 30 km Plum Pudding stage.

Hopefully we can build on some of that experience this weekend. It’s also vital for us to continue to gather valuable information on another new surface for our WRC programme. Australian roads are renowned for their slippery gravel surface so this rally will be a real test of traction and performance.”
