Juha Kankunnen a Luca Pedersoli dominate Rallylegend 2011

The four-time world rally champion Juha Kankkunen on a 1993 Toyota Celica St 185 coloured by Grifone, wins the ninth edition of Rallylegend.

Juha Kankkunen, with Matti Janhunen (Toyota Celica St 185) overlooks the 9th Rallylegend and Luca Pedersoli, with Dino Maggioni (Peugeot 206 WRC), wins the WRC Trophy, scoring the best overall chronometric performance. Great show by the fascinating Legend Stars, corollary of an amazing Rallylegend edition, embraced by an incredible public. But Rallylegend 2011 does not stop here: tomorrow, Sunday, October 9th, big closing in style with "Stratos Anniversary" and " Legend Show ".

Republic of San Marino. The four-time world rally champion Juha Kankkunen, paired with Matti Janhunen, on a 1993 Toyota Celica St 185 coloured by Grifone, wins the ninth edition of Rallylegend dominating, from the first stage on Friday, Historic and Myth classes thus centering his goal: to win and recover from the 2010 withdrawal, due to a physical illness, when he was still leading the race.

The Toyota used in the crowded San Marino special stages is that same model that brought him to the World title in 1993. In Rallylegend ranking, behind "KKK" we find Mauro Miele from Bergamo, former motocross champion, also strong behind the wheel, here on a BMW M3 E30, with Luca Beltrame at notes while the competition for the third step of the podium between Giuliano Calzolari and Marcello Colombini ended with Colombini unfortunately retired in the very last lap effort.

"The Wolf", as Calzolari is known in the rally world, with Corrado Costa at notes, drove a Ford Escort RS Group 4 and showed to have overcome 2010 consequences, when he was seriously injured in a knee. Among withdrawals: 1985 world champion Timo Salonen, for the breaking of the steering box of Toyota Celica St 205 and Denis Colombini, with the engine of his VW Golf Gti out of order, while the Uruguayan champion Gustavo Trelles was penalized by a problem with power delivery of his Delta HF. Late, but still with fun, Dario Cerrato (Delta Hf), Federico Ormezzano (Talbot Lotus) for two punctures and a "touch" and Bruno Bentivogli (Alfetta GTV6).

The WRC Trophy was dominated by Luca Pedersoli, with Dino Maggioni, Magneti Marelli Aftermarket’s chief at the notes, who gained way since the start with the Peugeot 206 WRC. His fiercest competitor was the two-time world champion Marcus Gronholm, who faded in the second stage for problems of his Peugeot 206 WRC turbine, which then forced him to retire. Pedersoli also had the great satisfaction of having achieved the best overall time in the special tests among all competitors at the start. Regrets instead for Paolo Dracone who returned to rally after more than twenty years debuting on asphalt, to whom the change of his 206 WRC Peugeot denied the satisfaction of getting on the podium. Highest level show at "Legend Stars" with many champions such as Hannu Mikkola (Audi Quattro A2), Harri Toivonen, Jacky Ickx, with the journalist Emanuele Sanfront, Miki Biasion, Per Eklund, together with Paolo Valli (Lancia Delta S4), the Spaniard Xavier Pina (Peugeot 205 T16), Steven Rochingham (Triumph TR7 V8), with Yvonne Mehta as co-driver, Piero Gobbi (Lancia Stratos), Dieter Depping, Volkswagen test driver. "It 's been another great Rallylegend – commented in the end Vito Piarulli and Paolo Valle, – "souls "of the event – with many champions, many drivers, a bunch of vintage cars and international side events. It 's always difficult to comment Rallylegend, you must come and see it in San Marino … "

Particular attention was paid to the aspect of safety on special stages, where the presence of the public was massive, as always. Miki Biasion, committed among Legend Stars, was very pleased in the end: "I wanted to express my gratitude to the thousands of Rallylegend spectators – stated the two-time world champion – for responsibility and politeness demonstrated , preparing special test properly, without creating a security problem. They have proven to be true rally fans and Rallylegend is for them and will always be a great show, thanks to the collaboration of spectators like these." BUT RALLYLEGEND DOES NOT STOP HERE: TOMORROW SUNDAY OCTOBER 9th, GREAT CLOSURE WITH "STRATOS ANNIVERSARY" AND " LEGEND SHOW ".

A unique show in the world: twenty great Lancia Stratos Group 4, with the most famous and fascinating sport liveries, have been one of the core attention for the mass of Rallylegend fans in three days from Wednesday to Saturday. Tomorrow morning, Sunday at 9:10 starts the big "40th Anniversary of Lancia Stratos." All Stratos, driven by many great champions, including Sandro Munari, Tony Fassina, Fabrizio Tabaton, Adartico Vudafieri, Federico Ormezzano, who helped to make them legendary, parade on the path of the stage "The Legend" before returning to the Village at Multieventi Sport Domus for the presentation and the election, by a qualified jury, of the best representative sample, with subsequent awards.

The adrenaline closure of a successful Rallylegend will be "Legend Show ", or rather the "1st Rallylegend Superchallenge 2011," beginning at 9:50, again on Sunday 9 October. At the wheel of the Lancia 037, Audi Quattro S1 and S2, Peugeot 205 T16, Lancia Delta S4 will compete, among others, the champions Miki Biasion, Hannu Mikkola, Paolo Andreucci, along with a patrol of other big names, including Michael Gerber, Joseph Bianchini, Lucio Peruggini, Mark Gramenzi and the "host" Paolo Valli.
