Hayden Paddon: Wales Rally GB

This time it is for Wales Rally GB, the final round of this year World Rally Championship.

It’s that time again – time to pack the bags (that only just got unpacked :)) and board the plane. This time it is for Wales Rally GB, the final round of this year World Rally Championship.

It doesn’t seem like that long ago that we started our partnership with Hyundai at Rally Sardinia in June and now in our sixth event with the team. I feel we have achieved to date exactly what we set out to do – to learn and show steady progression while gaining as much experience as possible.

Now back on my preferred surface of gravel we are looking for a strong result. The good times we have set in previous events, we want to string these together more consistently to push for a good overall result.

Wales is not a rally that I have done for a couple of years, but about 40% of this years stages are new, which is more of a level playing field for us. Also normal Welsh November weather consists of rain, rain and more rain, which on the long range weather forecasts looks no different for this year. This does make the stages quite muddy and slippery in places and fog in the higher parts of the stages is also a real possibility. But we are prepared for it and some parts are no different to a NZ forestry stage in the wet – some Otago Rally stages spring to mind.

An important part of the preparation for all events is the pacenotes and the recce. We have put together a small video explaining on how this all works which you can see by clicking the following link:

Really looking forward to trying to finish the year off well. As always you can keep up to date with our weekend on our facebook and twitter pages. Live results you can find at wrc.com.
