Kajetanowicz: Big step towards the championship title

Incredible pace presented by Kajetan Kajetanowicz and Jarek Baran on punishing, twisty Cypriot roads.

Incredible pace presented by Kajetan Kajetanowicz and Jarek Baran on punishing, twisty Cypriot roads led the FIA ERC leaders to their second victory this year. Just like the previous one – in winter Jännerrallye – it was achieved in great style, with comfortable advantage. Thanks to their impressive performance, the Polish crew left their rivals disillusioned and finished all sixteen special stages in top three, winning 14 of them. As a result, after covering 205 competitive kilometres, Kajetanowicz and Baran reached the finish in Larnaca with almost four and a half minutes advantage over second-placed Bruno Magalhães. LOTOS Rally Team crew also won both legs of the rally. It means that the Poles scored maximum amount of points for the second time this year, earning 39 points in Cyprus. Kajetan and Jarek strengthened their lead in overall standings of FIA European Rally Championship. Their advantage over second-placed Craig Breen grew from 23 to 62 points.

Thanks to multiple stage victories in Cyprus, Kajetan Kajetanowicz scored almost maximum amount of points in the FIA ERC Gravel Masters classification. The Pole racked up 150 points out of 160 possible and successfully defended his title with one round to go. This is the third surface specialist award claimed by Kajetanowicz, after winning the FIA ERC Gravel Master title in 2014 and the FIA ERC Ice Master title last February. There are still two round to go in FIA European Rally Championship. In two weeks’ time Kajetan Kajetanowicz and Jarek Baran will take part in the legendary Acropolis Rally. Last year they scored third place on Greek gravel roads.

Kajetan Kajetanowicz: – My huge love for rallies mean that every day I wake up thinking what I can do in order to be faster, better driver. This enormous effort – made on daily basis by all LOTOS Rally Team members – reaches its peak during rally weekend. When the organisers said before the recce that it would be the quickest edition of the Cyprus Rally ever, it sent shivers up my spine. Last year I got to know the characteristics of this punishing rally but when I learnt about the speeds on current stages, I realised that my heart rate behind the steering wheel will reach maximum level. I was right: during the fight, rushing through thousands of corners, flying at high speed from asphalt to gravel and from gravel to asphalt, there were many moments when I learnt how fast my heart could beat. Many thanks because in this rally my team did their absolute best. If they can work so hard all the time and fulfil their duties with such passion, straight from the heart, then I will still love them.

Jarek Baran: – Today I can say that finally I got even with the Cyprus Rally in one hundred percent. Kajetan crossed the t’s and dotted the i’s with another gravel triumph. Every round of FIA European Rally Championship is challenging but I will remember this rally as one of the hottest – not only due to the temperature, but also because of the pace we maintained from start to finish.
